Press Release, 25-05-2019
In the presence of Their Majesties King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden, the 18th edition of Stockholm Early Music Festival will be opened, Tuesday 4th of June, 7.30 pm in the German Church, Old Town.
A lavish international music buffet from 10 centuries is waiting, during the whole festival week. The kingly opening on Tuesday evening offers La Pellegrina, a sparkling Renaissance wedding feast à la Medici, with dancers, choir and orchestra conducted by Mariangiola Martello. Thereafter the relay continues to run from Father Seraphim's 1000 year old Georgian song tradition, through harpsichord star performer Skip Sempé, to Cappella Mediterranea’s colourful Ibero-american fiesta!
OPERAtion Bach, directly from Germany, stages the secular cantatas of the baroque master, while the Neapolitan multitalented Vincenzo Capezzuto's peculiar voice embraces Stradella's universe. Swedish 18th century folk music hits, Slovak basset-horn, an international instrument exhibition and medieval Night Concerts in total darkness top the programme. And who will be this year's Surprise Concert guest?
It’s never too late for early music.
