Welcome to Stockholm Early Music Festival 9-13th June 2010

As Stockholm prepares for its royal wedding celebrations, the old town
will be hosting, for the ninth consecutive year the Stockholm Early
Music Festival - Sweden's international stage for world class early
music.  In a magical symbiosis  the beautiful  sounds of the baroque,
middle ages and the renaissance merge with the warmth and beauty of the
city in June to provide a unique experience, that will long be

The festival opens with one of Europe's most acclaimed counter tenors,
the young star Philippe Jaroussky, making  his Stockholm debut with a
concert of Purcell highlights.  Dutchman, Ton Koopman, one of today's
foremost baroque specialists plays Bach's masterpiece The Art of Fuge
together with Tini Mathot.  Listen to Sweden's own prize-winning
soprano Ida Falk-Winland or discover the music of the female byzantine
composer Kassia - 300 years before Hildegard of Bingen! The expressive
Italian ensemble La Venexiana treats us to an evening of madrigals
composed by the renaissance prince and wife-murderer, Carlo Gesualdo.

A young ensemble will be appointed winner in the final concert of the
Nordic competition EAR-ly 2010 organised by the Nordic Early Music
Federation (NORDEM).  This year's performance for our younger audience
is a children's opera and as always the festival programme will also
include exciting seminars and masterclasses.

It is never too late for early music. Welcome!
