The Eric Ericson Chamber Choir – O Magnum Mysterium - Christmas in the Iberian Peninsula

Saturday 3 December 2011 15:00

A concert with the Eric Ericson Chamber Choir and instrumentalists, conducted by Fredrik Malmberg, starring composer Tomas Luis de Victoria.

The renaissance composers of the Iberian peninsula excelled at combining instrumental and vocal groups of different shapes and sizes placed around a church or concert hall. In hymns, motets and villancicos, the Virgin Mary and the newborn Christ child are celebrated through fiery rhythms, colourful chords and heavenly harmonies. It is 400 years since the death of the great Spanish composer Tomas Luis de Victoria, and he is given a lead role in this slightly different Christmas programme.

The Eric Ericson Chamber Choir was formed in 1945 and is one of the world’s top ensembles in its genre. The choir enjoys working with orchestras and instrumental ensembles, for instance the Swedish Philharmonic Orchestra and the Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble, and tours abroad several times a year. The wide repertoire spans from renaissance to avantgarde.
