JOIN THE JOURNEY WHEN AN OPERA IS REVIVED: In Italy, around 1600, a number of music-dramatic works were created that claim to be THE FIRST OPERA. At one of the premieres, the thirteen-year-old shooting star Francesca Caccini sang one of the roles, and already in 1607 she wrote her first opera on her own: La Stiava! The work has not yet been found, but her La liberazione di Ruggiero dall'isola d'Alcina from 1625 is today considered the world's oldest surviving opera composed by a woman. In 2022/23, Den Andra Operan makes a deep dive into the birth of opera from a female perspective, starting with Francesca Caccini's La liberazione di Ruggiero dall'isola d'Alcina. We invite YOU to take part in the open creative process that continues for a year under the name CACCINI REVISITED.
