To the Stockholm Early Music Festival from the Minister of Culture and Democracy Amanda Lind, 8 September 2020

Honorable organizers, musicians, participants, audience and Mrs. Ambassador. I had hoped to be able to join you tonight and be one of those who inaugurate this festival. Experiencing Early Music in this environment undeniably enhances the experience and I was really looking forward to sharing it with you.

As Minister of Culture and Democracy, I am incredibly happy that Stockholm Early Music Festival runs year after year with Early Music as its theme. In this difficult time, culture is needed the most. Therefore, it may be worth recalling what Hildegard of Bingen, one of the first female composers we know, urges us to do; we must remain brave and strong even when the when the waves blow high.

It is of the utmost importance to me as Minister of Culture that no matter where we live, we should have good conditions to develop through music - both as listeners and practitioners. Organizers such as SEMF have an important role to play in the rich Swedish cultural life. You succeed in a fantastic way in contributing to creating touching musical experiences by bringing to life, using and developing the cultural heritage. The work of SEMF has a great artistic value.

I am convinced that you will have a memorable concert and several fantastic experiences at the festival. Thank you for being here and supporting the culture and music in these difficult times.
