Bach chorales and folk dances! European Day 2015 in Nordic light.
Thursday 29 January 2015
What happens when you "cross-fertilise" early Swedish folk dance melodies and polskas with the most beautiful four-part chorales written by the Baroque genius J S Bach? The answer is given the 21 of March, on the master's birthday and nowadays also the European Day of Early Music. That is when organ player Gunnar Idenstam (known from the CD "Bach på Svenska"), nyckelharpa/keyed fiddle-players Johan Hedin, Erik Rydvall, Niklas Roswall, baroque violin player Ida Meidell Blylod, and Swedish vocal quartet (Jessica Bäcklund, soprano; Kaspar von Weber, countertenor; Love Enström, tenor; Johan Karlström, bass) take up the challenge in "AURORA BACHEALIS". An including sound world is presented, where sacred and secular expressions are paired up, reflect each other's colour palette and are improvised over. Expect a lovely music experience!
Stockholm Early Music Festival initiated the European Day of Early Music in 2013. The celebration is coordinated across the whole continent through the European Early Music Network (REMA) and is under the patronage of both UNESCO and the European Commission.
In collaboration with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the Swedish Radio (Sveriges Radio), Swedish Performing Arts Agency (Statens Musikverk) and the City of Stockhom (Stockholms Stad).
