When 17th-century Spanish musicians brought traditional rhythms from Naples, Portugal or South America into the fine rooms of the kingdom, a new world of music was created. ’Globalisation’ reached the court of Versailles and even greats such as J S Bach and Scarlatti wrote chaconnes, folias and canaries.
