II SEMF Christmas Edition

Welcome to an exclusive winter version of the festival, adapted to the cold season and Christmas celebrations, offering early music from afternoon to midnight! Indulge yourself with music, visual arts, storytelling, and historically inspired food.

Begin the day with Italian baroque, move on to medieval England and, later, the wonderful French performance "Monsieur Couperin's Laterna Magica." Round off the evening by lying comfortably back in the popular midnight concert.

A perfect recipe for heightening the winter atmosphere!

It’s never too cold for early music...

The programme may be subject to change.

Laterna Magica at Swedish TV Kulturnyheterna at 19.00 the 23th November

Saturday 24 November 2012

The Chamber Choir of Musikaliska, with conductor Ian Plaude, welcomes the festival audience with early French choir music in the entrance and the bistro.  Music by Jean Baptiste Lully, Pierre Passereau, Pierre Certon and Clément Janequin will guide you to the first concert of the day.  French cheese and wine will be served in Bistro Birgit.

How is the jovially generous Father Christmas related to the grey, temperamental pucks and gnomes of old? Thrilling and funny stories about one of our most legendary mythical characters and about the "little people" living underground. Ida Junker from Fabula Storytelling tells all.

Spellbinding medieval and traditional Christmas and winter songs with Celtic and Welsh roots. The British ensemble Joglaresa, perhaps rather like a street band than a polished early music ensemble, mix singing with fiddles, harps, percussion and bagpipes, all under the direction of Belina Sykes.

After the Baroque buffet, SEMF Christmas Edition continues with concerts which take place in smaller venues and are therefore performed twice. This means that there are two "routes" possible when navigating the evening's events. You can  trace the two routes in the schedule below by looking at the colour of the background.

Grey/beige background: 20.15-20.45 Storytelling 21.00-21.45 Early Late Night Concert: A Silent Night 22.00-23.15 Monsieur Couperin's Laterna Magica

White background: 20.15-21.30 Monsieur Couperin's Laterna Magica 21.45-22.15 Storytelling 22.30-23.15 Early Late Night Concert: A Silent Night

When you buy a festival pass (with or without Baroque buffet) you are automatically given tickets to the grey/beige background concerts.
