Early Music Day 2023

March 21 2023 throughout Europe marks the celebration of the 11th edition of the Early Music Day, launched by an initiative of SEMFs founder, Peter Pontvik, and coordinated by REMA. The event enjoys the patronage of the European Commission and is a cooperation with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). More information about the Early Music Day can be found on earlymusicday.eu.

On March 21st, the beginning of spring and Johann Sebastian Bach's birthday, concerts, conferences and other events related to early music are held around Europe with the purpose of increasing the awareness about the diversity of a shared historical musical heritage. Most of these events are available worldwide via online live streaming.

In Stockholm, SEMF is offering a concert at EARLY MUSIC SWEDEN/Musikaliska, 7.00 pm, also broadcast through the Swedish Radio. For more information please see below.

Early Music Day is as every year celebrated on the 21 March, the birthday of J. S. Bach. In the programme's three solo cantatas, the Master, also known as the Fifth Evangelist, composed some of the most beautiful pieces written for bass voice - a divine lament is united with consolation. Staffan Liljas, one of Sweden's most distinguished Baroque bass singers, enchants with his warm, dark sound, accompanied by hand-picked Swedish musicians. Deeply recommended!
