“Cantiques pour un Prince” unifies the French baroque genius Marc-Antoine Charpentier's expressive, beautiful and sorrowful double choir mass with motets from the 1670s. An evening full of the emotional power of music!

La Fenice (name taken from the phoenix – the fabulous bird risen from the ashes) is today one of France's most acclaimed early music ensembles. With internationally renowned soloists and under the direction of its founder, cornetto specialist Jean Tubéry, they cooperate in this concert with Belgian vocal ensemble Vox Luminis, known for its exquisite tuning and clarity of sound.

"She truly surpassed the expectations...she sang two arias of her own composing...where she accompanied herself at the keyboard in a sensitive and masterly manner". This testimony refers to Marianna Martines (1744-1812), who was a pupil of F. J. Haydn and the first woman to be admitted to the prestigious Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna! Don't miss the opportunity to acquaint yourself with Martines' crispy music, performed by Rumanian prize winning harpsichordist Nicoleta Paraschivescu.

Immerse into artistic expressions of unfulfilled desire, divine and worldly love… Norwegian ensemble Currentes founded by Jostein Gundersen, specialises in polyphonic early-early music.

EARLY LATE NIGHT CONCERT allows you to lean comfortably back on a mattress and listen to early music horizontally, by candlelight. Works by Lully, Monteverdi, Händel and Bach.

How did the wide world sound, when it finally was ”discovered” by the Europeans? Those who poked and prodded in other people's backyards with varying degrees of grace and sensitivity… With high energy the young baroque collective Bastard Barock shows the way through the cathedrals of Peru and African villages.

The woman’s role as a composer has been hidden during history – especially in epoches of early music. SEMF took stand and changed the male noun Anonymous to AnonymA. Hear musicologist Bodil Asketorp,from the Swedish Radio, who has produced the documentary series about early female composers ”Was Anonymus actually Mrs. Musica?”

Founded in 1970 (!) on Philippe Herreweghe's initiative, Collegium Vocale Gent is today one of Europe's top vocal ensembles who's transparent sound has acquired world fame. CVG performs at the major concert venues and has recorded an impressive discography of 80 CDs.

Gesualdo's sixth book of madrigals is a garden of extraordinary intense beauty, expression of painful sentiments but also masterful counterpoint. Written two years before his death, it represents a "Grand Finale" in the opus of the composer and is a real technical defy for any interpreters. Majestic dissonances and changing colours give the music a unique touch of modernity.

Estonian folk hymns with historical links to Sweden and the Finno-Ugric peoples' peculiar archaic song tradition has been passed down to our day through centuries of oral tradition. The delicate vocal ensemble Heinavanker, which takes its name from a painting by Hieronymus Bosch, recreates them with new strength!

The young international musicians in Seconda Prat!ca, trained at the Conservatories of Amsterdam and The Hague accompany the migration and hybridization of European culture in an expanding world. Sarband/AVE  

The festival ends in a sign of reconciliation; traditional music from three cultures and religions (Judaism, Christianity and Islam), build paths bridging over the abysses in our contemporary society. The ambassadors of peace are the the German multi culti ensemble to Sarband and the Swedish vocal group AVE - a beacon of spiritual unity in diversity!
