THE EARLY HEARITAGE is a chronological musical experience in a non chronological order, where you as a concert-goer can take part of immaterial European cultural heritage, from its folk roots to the extravagance of baroque music. In the spirit of the Year of Cultural Heritage, with 10 individual concerts and seminars over 5 days, this programme draws attention to the early immaterial heritage of our society.

THE EARLY HEARITAGE-card that entitles you entry to the 10 concerts of The Early HeAritage project for only 1.250 sek (The German Church: B-sector. Other venues: non-numbered seating) can be booked until tuesday 5 june 7.30 pm through SEMF's ticket telephone number +46 72-224 42 42 (NB not online, only telephone booking or at SEMF's ticket office. Please, see telephone hours here).

CULTURAL HERITAGE POINTS! Each time you visit an event within the frame of the project The Early HeAritage, you increase your knowledge about our early music heritage. You will also receive a stamp in a box of your programme book, at the exit.
 A SEMFestival pass for 2019 is raffled among those who visit all ten concerts! You can of course also collect your Cultural Heritage points if you have purchased a SEMFestivalpass or single tickets for the concerts.

NB The SEMFestivalpass sold out! 

PLEASE READ THIS INFORMATION BEFORE PURCHASING YOUR SEMFESTIVALPASS!

 

•The SEMFestivalpass gives you entrance to Stockholm Early Music Festival 2018.

•In The German Church you can choose your own permanent seat (the same seat for all evening concerts) within the raws 5-6-7 in the A-section.   

In order to buy you SEMFestivalpass please follow one of these alternative steps:   

A) Click on BUY TICKET and follow the instructions.  

B) Click on "Buy ticket" to some of the evening concerts in the German Church. you will be linked to a box with the question: "Säsongskort? This event is included in a season offer, would you like to purchase regular tickets or a seasonal ticket?". Please choose "I want to purchase season tickets" ("Säsongskort" is an internal denomination used by our ticket distribution provider Tickster corresponding to our "SEMFestivalpass") in order to continue with your purchase.  

C) Order your SEMFestivalpass by phone during SEMF's opening hours, non-holiday Tuesdays 10 am - 12 noon and Thursdays 1 pm - 3 pm. You will get a paying-in form by normal post and you collect your SEMFestivalpass in the ticket office during the festival 4-10 June.  

NB! in SEMF's remaining arenor seats ar not numbered. Vi ask SEMFestival owners kindly to appear 15 minutes before the concert, at the latest.   A printed copy of the festival programme booklet is included!   When purchasing on the Internet, please collect your pass in the festival ticket office by showing your printed online ticket.   The price for the SEMFestivalpass is 1 950 SEK.   

Please note that the pass is valid for all events except the Early Late Night Concert.

SEMF 2018 opens with a grandiose musical experience, a surprising and fascinating descovery for the listener: the Bohemian-born baroque composer Jan Dismas Zelenka! Contemprorary with J S Bach and G F Händel, his opus is at least of the same high quality as the one of his famous colleagues. Ensemble Inégal/Prague Baroque Soloists has been internationally acclaimed for its focused work with the music of Zelenka.

In cooperation with the Embassy of the Czech Republic.

At the EARLY LATE NIGHT CONCERT, you lay down comfortably on a mattres while listening to relaxed early music by candle light. This night don't miss to lie in Goldberg's footsteps for whom J.S. Bach wrote his Goldbergvariations for. With harpsichordist Benjamin Åberg's performance, this concert will be an absolutely special and wonderful time-out for you!

2018 - Europaåret för kulturarv  THE EARLY HEARITAGE    4

The Fujara is a unique Slovak wind instrument found on UNESCO's World Heritage List and is part of a large family of shepherd´s musical pipes. Experience the tradition-bearers Michal Smetanka and Robert Egreši from the Slovak part of the Carpathians. Together they also play around twenty other folk music instruments, sing and bring to live the ancestors' earliest music from the region! The singer Anna-Katarina Schatzl introduces Trávnice, the oldest known Slovak form of Meadow songs.

Award-winning vocal ensemble Plus Ultra, is a world leading interpret of music from the 16th century. In Stockholm the ensemble performs madrigals from the epic collection The Triumphs of Oriana, composed in honour of Queen Elizabeth I. Beautiful, passionate, spicy, lovely.

Jaap ter Linden, Dutch cellist and viol player with a long international career behind him in the Historical Performance world, illustrates the similarities and the differences between viola de gamba and baroque cello, both in a concert form as well as during an open masterclass. Music by J S Bach and Telemann.

Don't miss Cantigas de Santa María (Songs to the Blessed Virgin Mary), a great artistic legacy from Spain of the 13th century, where poetry, music, dance and theatre go hand in hand. Lutenist Xavier Díaz Latorre plays around the world having performed with Jordi Savall's ensembles, among others. He leads the star ensemble Laberintos ingeniosos, dedicated to the ”Spanish Golden Age”,  and that won international accolades in Europe, USA and Asia.

Mystique and beauty - The vocal music treasure of Bulgaria's sacred-orthodox and folk music is recreated magnificently by the four male singers of Svetoglas, all of them soloists from the reknown choir Mystery of the Bulgarian Voices. Vocal polyphony in an archaic atmosphere!

One of the festival's highlights! La Petite Bande, founded by nobody less than Sigiswald Kuijken and Gustav Leonhardt, are rare guests in Sweden. Having recorded almost all of Bach’s ensemble music, the little orchestra offers the great baroque, performing masterpieces by J. S. Bach, Telemann and Vivaldi. And finaly, a hint: check out the viola da spalla of Maestro Kuijken, - a cello or a violin?

Be acquainted with the most beloved and symbolically loaded Latvian instrument, kokles, the Baltic psaltery. The experts Valdis Muktupāvels, kokels and Rūta Muktupāvela, vocals, direct from Riga, perform traditional dance tunes and instrumental meditations, ritual, mythological, courting and calendar songs.

Norwegian Berit Norbakken Solset,  one of the most sought-after sopranos in Scandinavia and Swedish baroque singing expert, haute-contre Anders J. Dahlin share the stage! The fresh and vigorous Barockholm Ensemble, that gathers several renowned high profile Swedish baroque musicians, stands for the accompaniment.

Schola Sancti Henrici |

Welcome to a mass in the spirit of the Middle Ages, with performing guests Schola Sancti Henrici from Helsinki. The musical focus is on Piæ Cantiones (”pious songs”) from 1582, the oldest printed music book in the Nordic Countries. These songs were perfomed by pupils ("djäknar") in the School of the Cathedral of Åbo/Turku.

The raising star Chloé de Guillebon began playing the harpsichord at the age of eleven and in 2017, she won the first prize at the International Harpsichord Competition of Pesaro, Italiy! In the programme menu, delicacies by F. Couperin, D Scarlatti och J S Bach are offered.

Åsa Simma |

2018 - Europaåret för kulturarv THE EARLY HEARITAGE 3

The yoik; a language for survival, an escort, a way to remember. Åsa Simma, CEO of the Sami Theatre, was taught the traditional Sami yoik singing during a time when yoiking was forbidden. Åsa tell us about this particular, ancient Northern song form, and gives sounding examples of it.

Viol consort Les Escapades |

Has this ever happened to you? All at once a melody falls into your mind and just won’t leave. In this sense composers have inspired each other over the centuries. The viol consort Les Escapades who's name refers to escapades in music, tempt with European catchy tunes from the 16th century!

2018 - Europaåret för kulturarv THE EARLY HEARITAGE 7

The Swiss-international vocal-instrumental ensemble Mala Punica – ”pomegranate” in latin – conducted by musicologist Pedro Memelsdorff has lift up the performance of music from the Middle Ages to a new level. After 400 concerts and 40 awards, the ensemble’s interpretation of the luxuriant polyphonic repertoire from the 15th century in Italy is an extraordinary experience!
